Nicknamed « the peninsula of charm » by its inhabitants, Saint-Mandrier closes the harbour of Toulon. A long time ago Roman galleys made stopovers in its harbour. Today, the little port nestled in the cove of Saint-George hollow, has become one of the charming points of the village.
A village faces the harbour and Toulon. The other side of this beautiful unspoiled peninsula opens onto the Mediterranean and offers hiking, beaches and small coves.
Thanks to its various tourist attractions, the peninsular is increasingly appreciated by a good number of visitors year-round. The French Navy (Marine Nationale) has set up a training center and a naval air base there.
The fact that it is a peninsula, relatively far from the rest of the urban area of Toulon, enables it to retain its authenticity, and its tranquillity!
If you arrive by road, remember to make a stop to admire the exceptional panorama on the Bay of Tamaris.
Its rocky coastline offers many coves. An ideal setting for fishing, diving and swimming. As a little touch of history, the cliffs of Saint-Mandrier actually served as backdrop for the 1965 film Pierrot le fou (Crazy Pierrot) by Jean-Luc Godard, starring Jean-Paul Belmondo.
